Adequate foodgrains available in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 13: Adequate quantity of food grains are available in the godowns of Food Corporation of India (FCI) and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) for catering to the needs of people of the Kashmir division.
2,46,405 quintals of rice, 63074 quintals wheat and 31,591 quintals of sugar besides 1.40 lakh LPG cylinders and 49 lakh litres of K-oil have been stocked for assuring availability of essentials to the people.
This, according to an official statement, was revealed at a high level meeting convened here today to review stock position of food grains to border areas including Ladakh region.
The meeting was chaired by Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon.
The Minister of State for Transport and CA&PD, Shabir Ahmed Khan was also present in the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that dispatching of rice, wheat, atta, sugar and other petroleum products will be stocked in hilly and border areas well in time before closure of passes.
The Director CA&PD and FCI authorities were directed to ensure the dumping and stocking of food grains in these areas immediately for providing timely supply to the people.
The meeting was informed by the Director CA&PD, Kashmir that dumping of food grains for these areas have already been started.
It was also decided that the monitoring cell will be established at Sonamarg for checking the stocks being dispatched to Ladakh region besides Deputy Directors of CA&PD South and North Kashmir and Ladakh supplies were directed to ensure standard quality of food grains to the border and hilly areas.
Akhoon stressed upon the officers of CA&PD to come up to the expectations of the people and ensure more accountability in the distribution system. He instructed for providing of 20 Kg pack atta to the people of Ladakh and other border areas.
The Minister asked the FCI authorities that there should be no delay in releasing food grains after receiving requisition from the CA&PD. He also asked them for maintaining quality and quantity of the ration being supplied to the State godowns besides stressed for initiating measures to check the leakage and pilferage.
In the meeting arrangements for ensuing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra were also discussed and the Minister issued directions for making speedy disposal of food grains in the identified areas so that the pilgrims may not feel any inconvenience in this regard.
Among others the meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary, CAPD Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Director CA&PD Kashmir, Mehraj-ud-Din Kenu, Area Manager FCI Rajinder Gupta and other senior officers of CAPD.
