7 killed in Kathua mishap

Jammu, May 15: At least seven persons, including four women, died and around 12 others sustained injuries when an overcrowded mini bus collided head-on with a truck on Jammu-Pathankote Highway near Kathua, late Saturday evening.
Official sources said that a rashly driven truck (PB29-9832) - on its way from Jammu to Pathankote – collided with an overcrowded mini bus (JK02AC-401) at Mankotia Morh near Chann Rorian in district Kathua on Jammu-Pathankote highway, 65 kms from here.
At least seven passengers travelling in the mini bus were killed on the spot, while 12 others were injured. Condition of three of the injured was stated to be critical and were shifted to Jammu Medical College Hospital, for treatment.
The victims were on their way to Beas in Punjab to attend a religious function.
Police said it has arrested the erring truck driver and booked him for causing death due to rash and negligent driving. “All the killed and the injured belonged to Ramgarh area of Vijaypur,” police said.
