Budgam produces 18 ton honey
Agri deptt for establishing commercial cropping systems in Valley

Srinagar, May 15: Department of Agriculture Kashmir is ambitious to establish commercial cropping systems in the Valley as trend setting venture in modern era.
Mian Abdul Majid, Director Agriculture Kashmir said this while taking review of Bee Keeping scheme in district Budgam.
He said the bee keeping is a centuries old potential rural cottage industry of Kashmir and it plays a dynamic role in the state’s economy.
He said the bee keeping has emerged as an important sector for diversification in agriculture.
The Chief Agriculture Officer Budgam said that during 2009-2010 honey Production in District Budgam was 18.50 tonnes generating income of Rs 27 Lakh.
He said there are 1650 bee colonies in the district. “Fifteen unemployed educated youth have been provided bee keeping training during 2009-2010,” he said.
Meanwhile 170 bee colonies under Rashtriya Kissan Vikas Yogyna were distributed among farmers at Gopalpora Budgam today.
