Legislators hail coalition govt, seek Srinagar facelift

Srinagar, May 15: The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Saturday said he has asked various agencies including Srinagar Municipal Corporation, R&B and Housing and Urban Development departments to gear up ongoing development projects for speedy completion of the works in the summer Capital.
An official handout said the CM also spoke about revamp in sanitation measures.
“He said special directions have been passed on to the concerned for immediately putting in place short term, medium term and long term measures for the better sanitation and cleanliness of Srinagar,” the handout quoted CM as having said.
Omar was responding to the demands of the Legislators of Srinagar who called on him at his residence seeking resources for the City facelift.
The official handout said the Legislators discussed measures relating to upgradation of roads and drainage system in the district.
“The Legislators appreciated the dynamic role and personal interest of the Chief Minister, which he has taken from very beginning for the overall development of entire Srinagar City including Sher-e-Khaas,” the handout added.
The Legislators said Srinagar was one of the historical cities, rich with heritage sites. They said all precious historical sites of the City are required to be developed and protected.
“They requested the Chief Minister that like last year special funds be earmarked for the macadamization of roads.
“The Legislators emphasized that ERA, UEED and other sister organizations may be fully geared up to complete all the drainage projects within shortest possible time so that grievances of the people particularly in the interior areas of the City are redressed,” it added.
“They also emphasized streamlining of PDD, LT lines, electric poles and timely installation of transformers wherever they are damaged,” the handout said.
Those who attended the meeting include Dr Mustafa Kamal, Mubarak Gul, Irfan Ahmad Shah, Shamima Firdous and Muhammad Yaseen Shah.
Advisor to the CM, Devender Singh Rana was also present.
