Kupwara, May 16: The healthcare in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has been adversely affected due to the absence of four block medical officers.
Sources told Greater Kashmir that Zachldara, Vilgam, Kalaroos blocks were functioning without the block medical officers for nearly a year and the post of BMO Sogam was also lying vacant from the past one month.
They said, the work had been severely hit in more than 15 healthcare institutions as there was no supervision and accountability. They said three BMOs were deputed in April, but they didn’t join till date.
Sources said, government had posted Dr Zaffar Reyaz as BMO Vilgam, Dr Suhail Sultan as BMO Kalaroos and Dr Manzoor Lone as BMO Zachldara vide government order number 248 HME/2010 dated 21-04-2010.
“The senior officials in the health department can’t supervise hospitals and it is necessary to have local officers,” an official said on anonymity.
When contacted the director health services Kashmir, Dr Muhammad Amin Wani, acknowledged that BMOs posted in these hadn’t joined. “If they won’t join, action will be taken against them,” he added.
