Athwatoo, Sumar residents seek bridge construction

Sumlar (Bandipora), May 16: The people of Athwatoo and Sumlar have demanded bridge connectivity with Bandipore.
 “We have demanding construction of these bridges from the past four decades, but our repeated pleas have fallen to deaf ears,” the residents of these villagers told Greater Kashmir.
 “Government is promoting tourism in the valley, but the Athwatoo tourist resort is still not connected with bridge,” Lala Bhat said.
 The villagers complain that the non-availability of bridge on Athwatoo river was proving fatal as many people had drowned in it while crossing.
 “Ten people including six children, have died after drowning into the river,” said Muhammad Anwar.
 When contacted the Deputy Commissioner Bandipore Muhammad Sharief Sood said a detailed project for bridge construction sent to the government had been approved and the work would start soon. (Tariq Rasool)
