Heat wave in Jammu

Jammu, May 16: A fresh spate of heat wave, after some respite in the past two weeks, hit the Jammu region on Sunday with mercury going up by 3 degrees above normal.
The fresh heat wave that started from Friday, with mercury crossing 40 degree mark, aggravated the weather condition and mercury sore to 42.5 degree Celsius on Sunday, which is said to be three degrees above normal.
The sweating heat and scorching sun forced people to stay indoors.
Jammu roads witnessed very thin traffic while the markets wore deserted look during the peak hours. Though, the weekend was also a contributing factor for lesser activity, sudden rise in the temperature kept people inside their homes.The unscheduled power-cuts have also added to peoples’ woes. Meanwhile, the meteorological department has predicted that the rising temperature will continue in coming days as there were no signs of fresh rainfall.
“Their will be no respite in Jammu in the coming day instead the mercury will increase,” chief scientist Metrological department, Sher-e-Kashmir Agriculture Sciences and Technology (Jammu) M K Khushu told Greater Kashmir.
Dr Khushu put Sunday’s maximum temperature at 42.5 degree Celsius and last night’s minimum temperature at 21.3 degree Celsius.
