Let’s think beyond Engineering and Medicine
Medicine and Engineering have been the two prime career choices for a Kashmir. We never looked beyond the two subjects. The achievement of Dr. Faesal can ignite the minds of thousands of Kashmiris to join Civil services. I have seen so many talented students in Kashmir who think it is difficult to crack the examination, and there is some sort of discrimination meted out to Kashmiri students. All these myths were cleared this year when four Kashmiris made it to IAS, some without any formal coaching. It is time for the government, universities and other educational institutions to popularize and provide guidance to students to qualify for the exams like UPSC IAS/CAT /IIT JEE /GATE /NET/AIEE/PMT and other such examinations. Our institutions shouldn’t focus on running and awarding academic courses only. There is not a single institution in Kashmir on technical front which can offer coaching for IIT and none from the medical side, which can offer coaching for AIIMS. Need of the hour is that all these institutions should collaborate and create one centre of excellence to provide coaching/guidance for the youth aspiring for examinations. Greater Kashmir has done a good job by highlighting the achievements of these toppers. We all should motivate the government to conduct all examinations in the Valley. When UPSC can conduct exam here what is problem with SBI/NTPC/SAIL/GATE/ONGC/CAT/IIT JEE?
