We must address threats to biodiversity now
In view of the threats to the biodiversity, the United Nations has declared the year 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB). The main objective of observing IYB is to protect our biodiversity and reduce the constant loss of flora and fauna. We should generate awareness regarding the significance of conserving biodiversity for well-being of mankind and also focus on the economic value of biodiversity. Biologically rich habitats are being vandalized by man for his short term material benefits. The ongoing deforestation is a serious threat to wildlife. Biodiversity has great environmental, commercial, aesthetic and cultural value. The contemporary world is facing a sharp decline in the number of (wild) plant and animal species and the need of the hour is to prevent this irreparable loss. Human beings alone are responsible for these threats to wildlife as Man is the King of all living Species on earth. The most vulnerable zones of biodiversity have been designated/recognized as hotspots. At present there are 25 hotspots of biodiversity in the world , two among them are found in
