PDP to kickstart K-resolution campaign today
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, May 1: The Peoples Democratic Party is starting a series of constituency level meetings throughout the state for resolution of Kashmir issue and other allied matters, a PDP spokesman said in a statement on Saturday.
He said the first such meeting with the card holders would be held in Beerwah on May 2 (Sunday) and it would be addressed by senior PDP leaders, including Mehbooba Mufti and Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari.
During the campaign other senior leaders including the party patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, general secretaries Muhammad Dilawar Mir and Balbir Singh, Tariq Hamid Karra, legislators and others would be on the move to create a better understanding of party agenda for resolution of the problems of Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
The meetings with the card holders of the party would aim at explaining the significance of the party campaign to the cadre and mobilizing grassroots level support for an early resolution of Kashmir problem by India and Pakistan. The support of party workers would also be sought for the other demands that the party has been making and which were recently articulated by the Mufti Muhammad Sayeed in a press conference here.
The spokesman said the card holders would be energized to mobilize public opinion for other issues that the party has been piloting. Focus will remain on the revocation of AFSPA and withdrawal of troops from civilian areas and internal security duty as a starting point for reconciliation and resolution.
The spokesman said the unabated exploitation of state’s water and energy resources through NHPC without any compensation
is a major economic plank of the party agenda. The party will create awareness about this important area which has remained out of focus as a result of the underhand dealings of the National Conference governments
through which the water resources were handed over to the centre virtually free where as the state remains perennially deficient in power and has to beg the centre even for the wages of its employees. The party believes renegotiation of terms with the NHPC for the projects under execution and return of those projects like Salal, Uri and Dulhasti
which have earned their capital would turn around the economy of the state creating a huge job potential.
Similarly, the campaign would focus on the need for rolling back central services which have deprived the officers from the state their share in governance and decision making.
According to the spokesman the campaign will specially project the grave restrictions put on personal liberties as a result of the indiscriminate application of draconian laws like PSA and use of unnecessary force. Currently hundreds of political leaders, activists and young children are imprisoned under this harsh law. The party will emphatically demand release of all prisoners and will stress respect of judicial orders which are flouted by the government as a norm.
Following is the detailed programme which will be updated
later to cover all constituencies of the state.
