Green Solutions opens space for public suggestions

NAZIA AKHTAR

Srinagar, May 19: The organizers of ‘Green Solutions J&K’ – an event aimed to discuss issues related to sustainable development in J&K – have sought suggestions from general public on the issues slated to be discussed in the conference.
People can e-mail their suggestions on issues like sustainable industrial development, bio-diversity, eco-tourism, solid waste management, waste water treatment, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, etc, on greensolutionsjk@gmail.com.
“We are presently asking for the suggestions from the general people. It does not matter who they are. Anyone who has some suggestion can mail it to us. Even if they want to participate they can register with us.  We have introduced a separate email ID for it and the people can mail their suggestions before May 22,” said the organizers.
The event, to be organized by the Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir in collaboration with the Indian Youth Climate Network (IYNC) J&K Chapter, will be held at SKICC here on May 25 and 26.
The organizers feel that most of the times when such events take place it is only the experts and the policy makers who sit and discuss the things.
“But here the public will get a chance to put forward their solutions. It is actually they who are pregnant with concerns on their day to day life, hence they should be given an opportunity to speak,” they said.
“Sometimes even a school student can give us the valuable suggestion. So we should not undermine the intelligence of the local population. They are as intelligent as the highly educated people and the experts who are attending the conference,” they added.
According to the organizers the basic aim to ask for the suggestion is to make an attempt to stop the blame game and to come up with the better solutions.
“Basically this event is for and with the people of J&K. It is impossible for us to accommodate everybody in the conference so we have come up with this suggestion,” they said.
“Here we are inviting suggestions from the people so that if they will not be able to participate directly they can do so indirectly,” they added.
After receiving the suggestions the organizers will choose the best ones and make an outcome paper from them which will later be presented to the authorities concerned.  “We have our team coming from Delhi who will sit and choose the best suggestions. Then we will make folders of them and that folders will be presented in the respective sessions to the concerned Ministers. This will let them know about the voice of the general public so that whenever decisions or policies are made those suggestions are taken into consideration,” they said.
“When the suggestion will be selected and presented to the policy makers the name of each person who has given the suggestions will be written along so that their credit is acknowledged,” they added.
The organizers are also inviting people who want to take active part in the conference for the registration. “For both registration and suggestions the people need to send their names, contact numbers and a brief profile. Anybody be it a research scholar, professor or NGO person who is working in the concerned field can apply for the registration. They can send the required information to us. They should also mention in the subject whether they are applying for participation registration or suggestions,” said the organizers.
There is also an invitation for people or companies who have developed some green technologies or green products to display at the exhibition.
