JK Agro Industries launches mulberry fruit jam, juice

Srinagar, May 19: Taking to new heights to sericulture sector, the division of sericulture SKUAST (K), Mirgund, Pattan today gave 1st time the demonstration of Mulberry fruit Jam and Mulberry syrup in the office chamber of Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir and gave detailed presentation of their processing, its nutritional and medicinal value.
Principal Secretary Agriculture, Iqbal Khandy, Director Research SKUAST, Dr A.R. Trag, Director Sericulture, M A Khan, M.D Agro Industries Development Corporation, Muhammad Aslam Laygroo, representative of Cental Slik Board Fotodar and other senior officers were present during demonstration.
Mir said that the technology for producing Mulberry fruit products is 1st of its kind in the state and the job for launching these products was given to JK agro industries.
The processing of Jam and Syrup from Mulberry Fruit was the outcome of 3 years research work of Sericulture Development division to add the income of growers and provide more employment opportunities to the jobseekers, he was informed.
Appreciating the efforts of SKUAST(K) for this remarkable achievement, the Minister directed the Agro Industries to take the job of its processing as per the composition prescribed by the SKUAST(K) and launch this product in the market as early as possible. He also assigned them a job for collection of Mulberry fruits “TUIL”from the growers, sericulture and SKUAST Nurseries from tomorrow and starts its processing. He said that its successful launching in the market would help to boost the sericulture sector and also provide employment opportunities to the youths to come forward to opt it as a profession. He said that there is a lot of scope to provide job days from illiterate youths to educated youths.
While giving the presentation of these products, Head division of sericulture SKUAST(K), Dr. Afifa Kamili said that Mulberry fruit jam and syrup product are being launched 1st time in the J&K market as it have high medicinal and nutritious value. Giving its detail, she said that it contains the high content of vitamin “C” and Anthocynin content which besides giving colouring to the product ,helps in controlling blood pressure and Cholesterol level . She said the Mulberry fruit Syrup (juice) is more refresher drink than any other refreshing drink available in the market.
