National Gujjar Conference at Rajouri in June

SHAFIQ MIR

Rajouri, May 20: After the state level Pahari Conference held at Rajouri on May 17, Gujjars decided to follow the suit by organising a national level Gujjar Conference at the same place next month.
The conference named as “MAHA GUJJAR SANGUM” will be attended by Union Minister of State Sachin Pilot as Chief Guest besides nearly half a dozen MPs belonging to Hindu Gujjar Community.
One of the Organising Committee Members, Iqbal Chowdhary told Greater Kashmir that the decision has been taken in a high level meeting of Gujjar leaders soon after the conclusion of state level Pahari Conference.
“However, the final date will be announced after consultation with the Chief Guest,” he added.
Sources said some Gujjar leaders opposing ST status to the Pahari people of the state have donated more than Rs 50 lakhs for this conference and they have asked the organisers to make air travel arrangements for some VIP Gujjar leaders of the country like Col. Bhansela of Rajisthan. Besides other issues, sources said a resolution will be adopted by the Gujjars in this conference demanding political reservation in the state.
