Sonia to visit JK on May 29

GOWHAR BHAT

Srinagar, May 23: The Chairperson of United Progressive Alliance and Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, would be visiting Jammu and Kashmir on May 29.
“She will be on a one day visit,” a Congress spokesperson said.
He said she would first inaugurate multi-crore Gurjjar Centre for Culture and Heritage at Jammu and would later visit Srinagar where she would lay the foundation stone of a colony for the Dal dwellers at Rakh-e-Arath in city outskirts.
The centre for Gujjars in Jammu, sources said, would be one of its kind. “It will have an auditorium which would accommodate 1200 persons. The centre is being set up to promote cultural and literary activities of Gujjar community and Gojri language,” sources added.
Similarly, the Rakh-e-Arath housing colony is a multi-crore project for rehabilitation of the Dal dwellers, who would be displaced from the lake.
In the phase-I, nearly 6000 plots would be developed for the Dal dwellers.
Sonia’s visit comes a few days ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s scheduled  JK visit on June 7.
When contacted the President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, Prof Saifuddin Soz said that preparations were on to welcome the UPA chairperson.
Sources said Sonia is also likely to hold a meeting and sort out differences with the state Congress functionaries which have been now openly divided into the two groups—one loyal to Soz and another to union health minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad. She will also meet the leaders from the state coalition partners, National Conference.
