Govt to engage youth for stopping man-animal conflict
‘Hangul, Markhore breeding centre soon’

Srinagar, May 26: The government today decided to establish breeding centre for increasing the population of Hangul and Markhore and engaging youth on the pattern of Rehbar-e-Taleem to stop man-animal conflict in J&K.
“Squads to be constituted would be given necessary training with modern equipments,” the meeting, chaired by the Forest Minister, Mian Altaf for reviewing the functioning of Wildlife Department decided. He asked the officers to formulate a plan for purchase of vehicles with necessary equipment for the purpose.
Altaf underscored the need for establishment of eco-development committee for the protection of human lives and to avoid frequent man-animal conflicts in villages adjacent to the Forests. He said this would also help to avoid the killing of live-stock and crops damages. The meeting decided that the Committee to be constituted would comprise Legislators with four prominent locals to oversee and safeguard the Wildlife and other issues.
The meeting observed that man-animal conflict had assumed alarming proportion and killing of humans and livestock had become frequent. It decided to involve community members for resolution of such conflict.
He asked the officers to explore possibility for construction of restaurants on Mughal Road under eco-tourism system and further directed them to stop illegal construction on the Road.
Meanwhile, Altaf called for efforts to save bio-diversity, adding that appropriate and effective steps were needed to minimize the negative impacts of climate change.
He asked the civil society and departments to dovetail programmes, so that Bio-diversity was protected.
Speaking at the conference on Bio-diversity and sustainable agriculture, he said the need of the hour was establish eco-friendly industrial units.
