Jammu, May 2: The nephew of sitting MLA Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia was crushed by an alleged over speeding truck at Udhampur on Sunday
Police said the truck (JK02U-9767) hit a motorbike being driven by Prab Dev Singh son of Drub Singh of Badyan area of district Udhampur at Salathia Chowk, in which he suffered serious injuries. “The injured was rushed to the district hospital wherein he was pronounced brought dead,” police said, adding “The body was handed over to the family for last rites.” Police said they have seized the truck while its driver managed to escape from the spot. A manhunt has been launched to nab the driver.
Meanwhile, 24 passengers sustained injuries when a minibus they were traveling in skidded off the road and rolled down at Balnagar at Udhampur on Sunday, police said.
It said the matador (JK02F-0074) was on way from Thathi to Udhampur when the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve.
At least 20 people were injured, five of them critically, in a separate mishap at Reasi district of Jammu, Sunday evening.
Police said that mishap occurred when a passenger bus, carrying a marriage party from Poni to Reasi, collided with a car near Malia.
