Encounters staged to justify military concentration: Mirwaiz
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, May 29: The Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Saturday accused Army of carrying out genocide of Kashmiris in ‘fake encounters’ to justify military concentration in Jammu Kashmir and mislead the international community.
Expressing anguish over the killing of three civilians of Nadihal by Army, the Mirwaiz said the incident proved it beyond any doubt that the troops in Kashmir can go to any extent for promotions, rewards and medals. “The fake encounters are also carried out to put hurdles in the resolution of Kashmir issue,” he said in a statement.
Mirwaiz said Hurriyat would soon launch a sustained campaign at political and diplomatic levels against “unjustified killings and massacres” to make International community aware about the atrocities on Kashmiris at the hands of armed forces.
Meanwhile, a spokesman of the Hurriyat said Mirwaiz, who was scheduled to visit Shopian on Sunday morning, was placed under house arrest this morning. He alleged that various other Hurriyat leaders were also placed under house arrest to stop them from making it to Shopian on Sunday.
The spokesman strongly condemned the arrest of Zaffar Akbar Bhat, who along with other party activists was leaving for Shopian. He said, “Zaffar along with other JKSM activists, has been lodged in Sadar Police station.”
Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement has also condemned the arrest of Zaffar and other party activists, terming it undemocratic.
