Left shows concern on damage to fruit, property
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, May 29: State Secretary CPI(M) and MLA Kulgam Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami expressed concern over the losses caused to fruit crops, property and cattle due to heavy rains, hailstorm, strong gales and floods during the past one month.
In a statement issued today, Tarigami said the state was prone to natural calamities especially floods and as such government should come out with a wide-ranging long term protection plan instead of relying on ad hoc measures.
He urged the government to asses the losses suffered due to natural calamities and provide compensation to the victims. Besides this the ration and Kerosene Oil need to be made available immediately.
“There is danger to lives due to water borne diseases so, immediate measures need to be taken to rush medical teams to the effected rural areas,” he said.
Describing the situation as difficult, Tarigami urged the Flood Control and Irrigation Department to intensify the measures for pumping out the flood waters to prevent flooding of villages.
The water level in several Nallahs is constantly rising posing threat to people living on the bank sides, he added. He urged upon the PHE department to make use of water tankers for ensuring supply of drinking water in the affected areas.
