Delay in power projects implementation
Frequent hartals a reason: GoI
SHEIKH AHMED
New Delhi, May 3: The Centre Monday admitted that all powers projects in Jammu and Kashmir could not be completed on time due to frequent strikes, poor law and order situation and inadequate response to tenders.
This was disclosed by Union minister of state for power Bharatsinh Solanki to National Conference member parliament Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri.
Solanki said that land acquisition process and delay in receiving comments from the experts were other reasons for delay in completion of these projects.
“If these projects would have been completed on time it would have helped the state to overcome the acute power crisis, especially in the winter,” he told Ratanpuri.
The minister said that grid station could not be set up due to delay in acquiring land for this purpose.
He said that government decided to set up two power projects instead of laying Srinagar-Leh transmission line at the cost of Rs 634 crores.
It was agreed to set up Nimmo Bazgo project in Kargil at a cost of Rs 611 and Chutak project in Leh estimated to cost Rs 621 crores.
