Srinagar, May 5: Sajad Ahmad of second year emerged winner in SP College annual cross-country run held from Nehru Park to Nishat garden here on Wednesday.
The run was flagged off by the Principal, Prof. Zahoor Ahmad Chatt at Nehru Park. Despite heavy rains 139 students participated in the event. The participants were enthusiastic and as soon the run was flagged off athletes rushed out in hurry. From the start Sajad sprinted away from rest of the participants. Adil of second year gave him little fight but that was never enough as with each passing minute Sajad was gaining more lead. He ran last few kilometres alone as no one was behind him and finished first with the timing of 29:50 70. He had comfortable lead of three minutes against Adil ho finished with the timing of 32:35:90 while Muhammad Javed of first year finished third with the timing of 34:25:46.
Sajjad was delighted with the win and hoped to emerge winner in Inter-College event.
“I’m satisfied with my performance and now my next aim is to perform better in Inter-College event. In Inter-College only champions of respective colleges participate so competition would be really tough. More than the college run,” he said.
Due to heavy rainfall the concluding prize distribution function had to be shifted to the College auditorium.
Speaking on the occasion the Principal congratulated the participants and assured them of all possible help.
“Our College has been organizing this event for the last several years and with this we kick start our annual sports calendar. Winning is not important but participating and completing is,” he said, “SP College has been known for excelling in sporting events and I’m hopeful that all of you will continue that tradition by winning laurels for us in Inter-College events,” he said.
