CM for harnessing agri potential in JK

Jammu, Nov 9: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today reiterated his government’s determination to uplift the farming community and bring about a healthy change in their economic condition.
Addressing a farmers gathering after inaugurating the office of the Kissan Advisory Board here, the Chief Minister said that the self-reliance in agriculture production was directly related to the overall welfare of the farmers.
Omar said there was great scope for enhancing agricultural activities in the state besides giving boost to the allied sectors of animal rearing, poultry farming, sheep breeding, floriculture and horticulture.
“These are the sectors providing tremendous avenues of generating wide-ranging economic activities and opening new vistas of job opportunities for thousands of youth,” he said.
The Chief Minister said: “The State possesses a vast potential for these activities and a ready market is available for the agriculture products like food grains, mutton, wool, milk, chicken and eggs within the State”.
He, according to an official statement, asked the Agriculture Department to make farmers aware of the schemes available for launching projects in these sectors. “The department should come forward to help and guide youth in this regard,” he said adding that government would provide every sort of help.
Highlighting the importance of Kissan Board for the welfare of agriculturists, the Chief Minister said that the idea of constituting a Board of this nature was conceived to help ameliorate the lot of farmers and pave way for achieving self-reliance in agriculture production.
