Cop among 6 injured in clashes

BARAMULLA TENSE

WASIM KHALID

Srinagar Nov 10: Except north Kashmir’s Baramulla town, situation across the Valley remained normal for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
Witnesses told Greater Kashmir that small groups of youth appeared on three bridges- cement bridge, Azad Gunj bridge and SRTC bridge- in Baramulla town this morning and engaged police and CRPF men in pitched battles. Youth were protesting against the detention of a local youth, Parvez Ahmad Kaloo, who was arrested from the town on Tuesday. Police had claimed that he was a “wanted stone pelter.”
As the clashes intensified police and CRPF men cane charged the protesters and resorted to heavy shelling in which at least six persons were wounded.
Elsewhere in the valley, as the morning broke, the markets were again abuzz with activity. Shops, business establishments, offices, banks and other institutions opened. Public and private transport also plied normally.
