Govt mulling digital centres at districts

Jammu, Nov 10: Minister for Science & Technology and Information Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has said that the government is formulating a plan for establishing Database digital centres for digitalizing socio-economic and natural resources in the districts of the State. The Minister was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a workshop on “Socio-Economic and Natural Resources Digital Information of old Jammu district” here today, an official statement said. 
 The workshop was organized by Department of Remote Sensing and GIS, University of Jammu. The Minister said that Information Technology (IT) is playing significant role in developing data management technologies for integrated rural development and help in making decision at local level.
 He said that IT department in the State has achieved certain projects including Khidmat centres and Community Information Centres.
 Aga Ruhullah stressed the need for exploiting the potential of trained IT youth. He said that introduction of IT in every department is the need of the hours, adding that other departments should also have to understand IT’s importance.
 He said that the state is getting over 5,000 IT trained youth yearly from various IT institutions.  He said that a Multi National Company has been engaged at Kashmir University for imparting job oriented short and long term training courses, adding that this facility would also be extended to Jammu University.
