JK makes presentation on tourism at PATWA, London

Srinagar, Nov 11: At the Pacific Area Travel Writers’ Association (PATWA), a part of the World Tourism Mart London, J&K made a video presentation themed ‘Challenges in the Tourism faced by Natural Calamities and Potential of Newer Destinations.’
In presence of tourism ministers of some countries including Jamaica, Greece and senior officials of WTO, UNTO, minister of tourism, J&K Rigzin Jora spoke about the potential of New Destinations in J&K.
He highlighted the role the tourism players in J&K have played particularly during the recent floods in Ladakh.
A day earlier, an audio-video collection of nearly 400 pictures were shown at Nehru Centre, London by a leading photo journalist of UK, Henry Dallal in the auditorium packed with 500 potential tourists planning to visit J&K during the coming Summer, Valley-based participants at the WTM London informed Greater Kashmir by e-mail.
They said the J&K Evening will be held today at St. James Court Hotel with presentation by the tourism department organised for press and tour operators of the UK.
Giving details the e-mail said: J&K Tourism will also be participating in the Lord Mayer’s Show on Nov 13, where 650 states/districts including J&K Tabloid with Cultural event organised on a Shikara will be passing through the entire Central District of London.
“The Artists in colourful attires from all the three regions will be displayed on the Shikara which will be witnessed by thousands of Britons lined up for 7 Kms journey on both sides.
The WTM, which was flagged off on Tuesday, to mention, is a UK event aimed at the global travel industry. Almost 46,000 senior travel industry professionals, government ministers and representatives of the international media, converge on ExCeL London each year in November to attend WTM.
WTM marked its thirtieth anniversary in 2009, and is today a significant opportunity for suppliers in travel industry to negotiate business contracts.
World Travel Market is administered by events organiser Reed Exhibitions (RE), which also organises a portfolio of other travel industry events including Arabian Travel Market and Luxury Travel Market.
