25 traders booked, LPG cylinders found underweight

Srinagar, Nov 12: 25 traders were booked during market inspection in the City for allegedly violating Weights and Measures laws/Packaged Commodities norms, official spokesman said Friday.
He said the enforcement wing of Legal Metrology, Kashmir on the directions of its Deputy Controller, conducted market inspection and apart form booking the accused a fine of Rs 25 was also recovered from them.
“In one of the cases, two LPG cylinders belonging to Bharat Petroleum Corporation were seized for being underweight. The notice has been issued to the company for the lapse,” the spokesman added.
He said under Liquefied Petroleum Gas Rules, it is mandatory to have 14.2 Kg of gas in the domestic cylinder and the cost of gas has been fixed at Rs370/= by the government.
“There is an exemption of Rs 8/= on cost of gas if it is collected from godown/ showroom of the retail-outlet.”
Meanwhile, the department has started a helpline for consumers who have been “requested to lodge the complaints with the department on the phone No 2105756 in case any trader is indulging in overcharging or any fraudulent practice relating to weights and measures.”
