Srinagar, Nov 16: Chairmen of both Hurriyat factions Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq continued to be under house arrest on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha on Tuesday.
“The government has crossed all limits. I have not been allowed to come out from my house for the past 2-months. Even the people who visit my residence are harassed and targeted by the police,” Geelani told Greater Kashmir.
He expressed solidarity with the families of youth killed during the past 5-months by forces, he asked people to stage peaceful protests, after Eid-ul-Adah prayers across the state to reiterate their resolve to take the ongoing movement to its logical end. “We should also take care of the families of martyrs, injured persons and Kashmiris languishing in various jails,” he said.
The chairman of Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who led massive march from Eidgah to Lal Chowk on Eid-ul-Fitr in September said the state Government was trampling the religious rights of Kashmiris by stopping them from prayers and performing their religious duties.
“The government of India got exposed before the entire world on last Eid when lakhs of people assembled at Lal Chowk to demand their birthright,” Mirwaiz said.
He said that Kashmiri Muslims faced worst kind of suppression during the past 5-months.
“By locking Jamia Masjid for more than 8-weeks present regime even left the Sikh rulers behind. However, they should understand that these tactics have failed in the past and strengthened our resolve to take the mission of martyrs to logical conclusion,” he said.
Pertinently, Mirwaiz and his close aide Shahid-ul-Islam were placed under house arrest on last Thursday. Police had also detained 5-activists of the amalgam during nocturnal raids last week.
Pertinently, Geelani and Mirwaiz were scheduled to offer Eid prayers at Dargah Hazratbal and Eidgah respectively.
