Tolerate criticism
It is very unfortunate that Syed Ali Shah Geelani should condemn certain writers for their views on the “Quit India Movement” and the damage caused by the prolonged hartals for the past five months. Just as Geelani has right to express his views on the current state of agitation, similarly these writers too have their right to express their views. Geelani should not think that whatever he states is also endorsed by the general public. The initial enthusiasm shown by the people when Hurriyat Conference (G) launched the movement has already waned and the elements of fatigue are clearly visible. The Kashmiri people have suffered colossal loss in terms of human lives apart from the irreparable damage to the economy, education etc without any tangible result. People are no longer ready to toe the line of separatist leadership. The writers generally reflect the public sentiment in their write-ups. Instead of criticizing them, Geelani should ponder over the suggestions made in these write-ups and rethink the strategy to carry the movement forward. He should try to evolve a consensus in consultation with other separatist leadership.
