Srinagar, Nov 20: The J&K cricket team faced its one of the worst defeat in Ranji Trophy cricket tournament history when they were thrashed by Services by an inning and 127 runs at Harbax Singh Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.
On the fourth day, facing a tough task of saving match, JK resumed their second inning on 57 runs for the loss of two wickets trailing by 224 runs with eight wickets in hand. Knowing their past performances it was always going to be tough task for JK to save match but still one was hoping for some kind of miracle to happen. Like first inning, JK soon started to loose wicket one after another. In first inning whole team collapsed for 172 runs and in second inning it was worst, as team bundled out for 154 runs only. Lower order batsman R Dutta top scored for them with 49 runs while Hardeep scored 40. Except these two none of the batsmen was able to show any kind of resistance. For Services, S Yadav took three wickets while Nishan Singh and A Kush took two each. JK lost match by an inning and 127 runs.
Earlier, Services batting first scored mammoth total of 453 runs in their first inning. Jasvir Singh scored 112 runs while Yashpal Sigh scored 91. For JK, Abid Nabi took three wickets while Druv Mahajan took two.
In its reply, JK were bundled out for 172 runs in first inning and were forced to follow on. Arshad Bhat top scored with 56 runs Samiullah scored 40. Nishan Singh took four wickets for Services. Services got six points from match while JK got none.
It was third match of the JK in their Ranji Trophy campaign and in all the matches the performance has been miserable. In their first match they were thrashed by Maharashtra by 10 wickets. One was hoping that after facing tough opponents in opening match JK will perform better against not much quality side of Kerala in second match. But in that JK were fortunate to save match and settled for draw. Kerala got three points while JK got only one from the match owing to Kerala’s first inning lead.
In all the matches, JK has played with their full strength bowling line-up and still the bowling performance has been poor. The bowlers like Abid Nabi and Samiullah Beigh have not been able to perform upto their potential and that has affected team performance as well. Though they both have picked up wickets but not at occasions.
