Protests in Banihal after woman’s death
Srinagar: Protests erupted in a remote village of Banihal in Ramban district on Monday after death of a woman in alleged chase by unidentified men in uniform on Monday.
Sources told Press Bureau of India that hundreds of residents from Gujjar-nad, a far flung area, took to streets and staged demonstrations against the death of a 20-year-old woman after being chased by the unidentified men.
The protesters were alleging that the woman—Suna Begam wife of Muhammad Ishaq Khatana was chased along with four girls near a spring when they were fetching water from a spring.
The woman slipped and sustained grave injuries. She was rushed to hospital for treatment. However, she died mid-way to the hospital.
As the news about the death of the woman spread, hundreds of people took to streets and staged protests.
They said police received the spot and pacified the protesters with an assurance that action would be taken against those who are found guilty.
Station House Officer Sajjad Ahmad said that police has filed a case under section 174 Crpc in connection with the killing.
