JCO injured in Poonch gunfight
Srinagar, Nov 24: A Junior Commissioner Officer (JCO) was injured in exchange of fire between Army and militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote sector of Mendhar in Poonch district.Army’s 16 Corps spokesmen, Imraan Mousvi said that Naib Subedar, Shahji Memari of 5 Maratha Light Infantry (MLI) was injured when militants fired upon the Army’s ambush party near Anant Post along the LoC in Balakote sector last night, he said.Mousvi said that the Army officer who was hit by bullet in leg was shifted to military hospital, Rajouri.
Former militant held in Pulwama

Pulwama, Nov 24: Police on Tuesday night arrested a former militant of Hizbul Mujahideen from Kakpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.Sources said Showkat Ahmed, son of Ghulam Muhammad Kucchay of Humhama area of Budgam district was arrested by Special Operations Group (SOG) of police during a raid at the residence of Ghulam Qadir, son of Abdul Khaliq Dar at Kakpora last night.
Hurriyat (G) activists booked under PSA
Srinagar, Nov 24: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Wednesday said two more activists of amalgam were booked under the Public Safety Act by the government.The spokesman of amalgam, Ayaz Akbar said Mir Hafizullah and Rafiq Ahmed Ganai have been booked under PSA by the authorities.
Div Com, IGP interact with DCs, SSPs
Srinagar, Nov 24: A meeting of Deputy Commissioners and SSPs of various districts of the Kashmir Division was held here today under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon. The IGP Kashmir, S M Sahai was also present in the meeting.The meeting discussed various matters related to general public and civil and police administration in detail. The Divisional Commissioner emphasised the need for promoting police, civil administration and people relations.He said the civil administration and police should collectively work for development and welfare of the people.
JKPL for tripartite talks
Srinagar, Nov 24: The acting chairman Peoples League Mukhtar Ahmad Waza has said Kashmir dispute can be resolved through tripartite talks amongst Pakistan, India and the genuine Kashmiri leadership.Mukhtar said the League always maintained that the dispute over Kashmir could not be settled through bilateral talks.“Kashmir is a political problem and it needs a political solution in accordance with its historical perspective and aspirations of the Kashmiris,” he said.

CAPD squad seizes 3 trucks carrying livestock illegally
Srinagar: The market checking squad of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department has seized three trucks allegedly carrying sheep and goats illegally at Lower Munda on Srinagar-Jammu highway.According to CAPD spokesman, the trucks contained 489 sheep and goats. “The department auctioned the seized sheep and goats and contributed Rs 11, 97200 towards the state exchequer,” he said adding two trucks carrying chicken were also seized as they had rate variations. He said the seized chickens were sold to the customers on the rates prescribed by the government and the money was given to the person who had imported the same.He cautioned the mutton dealers not to import the livestock illegally. “Strict action will be taken against the offenders,” he said.
HCBA concerned over Qayoom,Shaheen’s falling health
Srinagar: The High Court Bar Association has expressed concern over the falling health of its incarcerated president, Mian Qayoom and general secretary, G N Shah.In a meeting, the HCBA urged the Amnesty International to persuade the state authorities to desist from taking recourse to black laws to suppress the genuine aspirations of Kashmiris.The Amnesty International should also direct release of all detainees, the meeting said.
