Geelani refutes militancy tag
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Nov 27: A day after police claimed that there was nexus between separatists and Lashkar-e-Toiba, chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday said Tehreek-e-Hurriyat was purely a political party and had no connection with militancy.
“Ongoing movement has no militancy link neither is their any need for armed struggle. But despite the change India continues to be rigid,” Geelani said in a statement.
He said after 20-years of armed resistance the struggle of Kashmiris has taken a shape of peaceful political movement.
About the Tehreek-Hurriyat activist Ghulam Muhammad Tantray, who police said was linked with Laskhar-e-Toiba, Geelani said, “We will investigate the allegations leveled against him by police at our own level. Tantray was subjected to third degree torture in custody.”
Geelani said Hurriyat was not only against provocative acts but also against provocative slogans. “At a time when Kashmiris were on streets against the oppression and there were slogans of arson and gherao, we created history and incurred anger of youngsters to some extent by asking them to remain peaceful,” he said.
Condemning the “targeting’ of government employees by police Geelani said that “policy of oppression and coercion” would not be tolerated.
“Employees are part and parcel of our society and cannot remain away from the common cause and these vile tactics amplify sense of slavery,” he said.
