Jammu, Nov 27: Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday said both the Commandant and his subordinate, who were allegedly found guilty in Zahid Farooq killing incident, would be court martialed
Talking to the reporters on the sidelines of a blood donation camp at BSF headquarters in Paloura here, Special Director General, (West) BSF Chandigarh, P P S Sidhu said, “Both the BSF commandant and his subordinate, who were allegedly found guilty in February 5 firing incident outside Nishat area in Srinagar in which one school going child Zahid Farooq was killed, would be court martialed.”
Sidhu was in the town to review the security scenario along the International Border (IB) ahead of winter season.
The BSF commandant, R K Birdhi and constable, Lakhvinder Singh, had allegedly fired on 16-year old, Zahid Farooq in February 5 firing outside Nishat area in Srinagar.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Srinagar on November 25 has transferred the Nishat case to the General Security Force Court (GSFC) in response to the plea by the paramilitary force that the accused officer and his subordinate were on active duty as per the notification of the Central Government with regard to disturbed areas in the country.
Asked about threats of infiltration bids on IB during winters, the Special DG said, “For the past 5-6 months, the Indo-Pak International border has observed lull but with the onset of winters, the security structure and patrolling along the IB would be enhanced.”
