PDP frustrated: Shariq
Srinagar, Nov 27: Senior National Conference leader and Member Parliament
Sharifuddin Shariq on Saturday said the move of the state government to dismantle bunkers and phased withdrawal of troopers from the Valley had frustrated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Issueless PDP is finding it hard to survive as it cannot befool the people anymore. Historic steps taken by the present government have left PDP high and dry,” a local news agency KNS quoted Shariq as having said.
Rejecting the statement of PDP patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed that Valley had been turned into prison, Shariq said, “Kashmir had become a prison when Mufti Muhammad Sayed and former Governer Jagmohan deployed troops and empowered them with draconian laws to kill the people.”
Accusing Mufti of killing Kashmiris in cold blood, Shariq said, “Memories of massacres of Gawkadal, Hawal, Zaldagar, Byepass, Zakura crossing, Bijbhera, Handwara, Sopore, and Pattan are still fresh in the minds of people.”
Shariq said when Mufti took over reins of the government in 2002, another round of “bloodbath and human rights abuses” started in the Valley. “These incidents proved that Mufti was not sincere to curb human rights violations and neither was he interested in protecting the rights of people,” he said.
The NC leader described the steps taken by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for demilitarization and AFPSA revocation and to protect human rights as “bold and appreciable.”
