Truckload of ‘adulterated’ edible oil seized

Srinagar, Nov 5: A truckload of allegedly adulterated edible oil was seized from a godown at Magarmal Bagh while Municipal Magistrate has issued non-bailable warrants against owner of a leading bakery shop at M A Road for selling “substandard” lot that too without a licence.
Officials said at the tip off the sleuths of Srinagar Municipal Corporation raided a godown at Magarmal Bagh and seized the edible oil with label of a popular brand.
The SMC Health Officer, Dr Reyaz Ahmed said the oil samples have been sent for examination to Public Health Analyst.
Meanwhile, as per an official handout, the SMC squad also raided a popular bakery shop and restaurant at Poloview and found that “substandard” items like bakery, fried rice and chicken were being sold.
“Moreover, the business was running without requisite PFA licence,” the Health Officer said adding that the Municipal Magistrate has issued non-bailable warrants against the accused and the case is listed for Saturday.
Besides, during the inspection of civil lines markets, “substandard beef” being sold at shops in Hazuribagh locality was also destroyed, the handout said.
