2 DIE IN SHOPIAN ACCIDENT
Srinagar, Nov 6: Two persons died and three others were injured in a road mishap in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday, police and reports said.
A local news agency PBI quoting witnesses said that two persons died while three others were injured when the auto rickshaw (chassis no. -065773) they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge near Nagbal Shopian early this morning.
The deceased were identified as Javed Ahmad, son of Muhammad Ismail Bhat and Muhammad Ramzan, son of Ghulam Muhammad Malik, both residents of Chattergam Kalan.
The injured were identified as Abdul Rashid Naikoo, son of Muhammad Ismail, Khalid Amin Bhat son of Muhammad Amin and Ali Muhammad were shifted to hospital for treatment.
However, a police spokesman claimed that the accident took place when miscreants were enforcing strike and resorting to stone pelting on civil vehicles in the area.
“The ill fated vehicle was on way to Shopian when it was heavily pelted upon by miscreants at Nagbal. The driver lost control and the vehicle turned turtle which resulted in on-spot death of two persons,” he said, adding “Police immediately reached to the spot and shifted the injured to hospital. Police have taken cognizance of the matter and investigations are on.”
