Neglected issue

The author deserves compliment for for highlighting an important but neglected issue like pregnancy related deaths (Greater Kashmir 4/11/10). The figures and the data mentioned by you reflect the grim state of health services in Kashmir. I felt so bad about the condition of our health system. Unless we pay attention to this area, Kashmir is not going to progress. We all know that healthy mothers give birth to healthy children, and it's these children who are the future of Kashmir. So maternal and child health programme need special attention. Its quality needs to be improved in terms of accessibility, availability, affordability and awareness, which cannot be achieved without the sincere efforts and interest of government. Government has to play a major role in reforming the health system of J&K, develop infrastructure in terms of material, manpower and money. By providing quality care to mothers and children, most avoidable deaths can be prevented.
