Srinagar, Oct 10: Seventeen new power projects are under execution in Jammu and Kashmir, three of them to be executed through joint ventures with NHPC and NTPC, the J&K government has said.
While 14 power projects have an installed generation capacity of 3,445 megawatts, the three projects to be executed as joint ventures have the capacity of 2,120 MW, Minister of State for Power Shabir Ahmad Khan said in the J&K Assembly yesterday.
"At the moment, 14 power projects with total installed capacity of 3,445 MW are under execution in State and Central sectors in the State. Three more power projects of 2,120 MW capacity are being implemented through joint venture with NHPC and NTPC," Khan said while responding to a question of Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo.
The State has an estimated hydro-power potential of 20,000 MW out of which 2,456 MW have been harnessed so far, he said, adding that the government is in "active pursuit of expeditious development of the available potential as per its resources".
Giving details, the Minister said three power projects at Kiru (600 MW), Kawar (520 MW) and Pakal Dul (1000 MW) are being taken up in district Kishtwar through joint venture.
Power projects Kirthai-I (240 MW) and lower Kalani (50 MW) are proposed to be taken up under the State sector, he said.
"The 690 MW Rattle HEP power project would be implemented through private participation for which power purchase agreement has been signed with the project developer GVK projects in June this year," he said.
The Minister said 15 MW Ranjali Dundi power project is also under execution on private-public participation while as under Central sector, 1,020 MW Bursar power project is being executed by NHPC.
