Govt to introduce Saffron cultivation in Udhampur

Jammu, Oct 10: In a bid to introduce the cultivation of world famous "Kashmiri saffron" in Jammu region, Jammu and Kashmir government today laid saffron demonstration plots at Basantgarh in Udhampur district in the state.
"Our department (state agriculture department) has laid saffron demonstration plots at Basantgarh belt of Udhampur district as part of its programme to introduce the cultivation of this lucrative crop in the area," Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Dudu Basantgarh, Amit Sharma said.
The trial plantation of saffron in these higher reaches of Dudu Basantgarh sub division has been going on since last two years and this phase of saffron cultivation on new plots is part of initiatives taken in this regard.
