Protect nature
This refers to Rahul Koul's letter "Punish them" (GK Oct 12). No doubt Dal Lake has become infamous for growth of toxic weeds and encroachments from all sides. The world renowned lake is fast dying as a major tourist attraction. We cannot blame a single person or a single department for its present condition but as a Kashmiri I must say that "we don't deserve Kashmir" and such a beautiful place needs extra care from its inhabitants. Not only Dal Lake is on the verge of extinction but all other major tourist places have become like places with heaps of garbage. Kashmir being ecologically sensitive place needs special attention not only from the Government departments but from the general public. We must take lessons from the people of Ladakh who imposed ban on polythene on their own and here in Kashmir despite a ban we see nothing but polythene around us.
