Digitization of records for municipal, urban bodies reviewed

Srinagar, Oct 15: Commissioner Secretary, Housing  and Urban Development department,   Suresh Kumar on Friday chaired a high level meeting on digitization of records of Municipal committees and other urban local bodies.
 An official handout said : “All the records would be made available on the website of the department.”
 “Emphasizing on the implementation of E-governance,”   Kumar said “this technology is an effective tool to increase efficiency, bring transparency and improve delivery of services.”
  He said there was an “immediate need for benchmarking of the services so that benefits of the ambitious urban development projects percolate to the deserving timely.”
 The meeting decided that required training would be imparted to the staff of urban local bodies to build their capacities.
  This, he said would help to bring all the records on line including computerization of birth and death records , approving the building sites, etc thus promoting transparency in the department.
 The meeting was attended, among others by Vice-Chairman, SDA   Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Director, Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir Khwaja Farooq Ahmad Renzu Shah, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Srinagar   Shiekh Mushtaq, Vice-Chairman, LAWDA   Irfan Yasin, Special Secretary, H&UD Department   Showkat Ahmad Mir, Director, Urban Local Bodies, Jammu   F.C. Bhagat, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jammu   S.C. Sawhney, Secretary, SUDA,   Javed Ahmad, Chief Town Planners, Kashmir & Jammu and other senior officers of the department.
 Technical Director, NIC,   Modi gave a presentation, detailing measures taken in this regard.
 The meeting held threadbare discussions on different aspects related to e-governance and status of on-going projects of the department taken under various central and state schemes.
