Mian Altaf inaugurates Research Station at Kawbagh

Srinagar, Oct 17: Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology Mian Altaf Ahmed   today inaugurated a Research Station at Kawbagh, Nunnar, Ganderbal to facilitate production of quality forest plants on scientific basis.
 Speaking on the occasion, he said that with the establishment of Research Station, production of quality planting material of important forest flora will get boost.
 He said this will also provide platform to organize debates, seminars for the awareness of the people, adding that imparting training and education to the front line staff of the forest and other line departments will also be conducted through this Research station.
 Mian Altaf said that local people will also be able to harness the maximum opportunities of employment through this Research station.
 The Minister further said that J&K State Forest Research Institute in its quest for exploring novel technology to conserve the natural flora and fauna of State has been in the service of mankind for the past two decades. He said the institute has established a number of research stations and feeding nurseries which have become a seat of carrying out forest research and production of quality planting material.
 To improve its infrastructure in carrying out conservation of our forest wealth, J&K SFRI had selected site during 2009 and concept of establishing a field research station was finalized, the Minister said. He lauded the role and whole hearted cooperation of local people in establishment of this Research Station which will be remembered with great respect, the Minister said.
 Present on the occasion included Commissioner Secretary, Forest Mr. Shantmanu, Director, SFRI Mr. R.D. Tiwari and Chief Conservator of Forest, Kashmir Mr. Shafat Ahmed.
