Dying Dal
Greater Kashmir has rightly highlighted the pathetic condition of the Nigeen and Dal Lakes. The famous lakes are fast dying. The state government has failed to protect the water bodies in Kashmir. So far many water bodies have already breathed their last. Official negligence has marred Dal lake. Weeds have engulfed the entire lake. The Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) has miserably failed to check the growth of unwanted weeds in the Dal besides maintaining its water level. It has also failed to put a halt on the constructions and encroachment in the interiors of Dal. This time too, scores of residential houses are coming up in the interiors of Dal. It seems to be a mafia. The state government must order a time-bound inquiry against the officials involved in the nexus. Government has always maintained a criminal silence over the deteriorating condition of Dal. It is high time it initiates action against the tainted officials who are out to destroy the asset.
