Don’t forget
This refers to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statement over the arrest of Hurriyat Conference (G) secretary, Masrat Alam Bhat. It doesn’t augur well for the CM to say that it is a “big relief” for the people. If Bhat issued calendars, the government imposed stringent curfew across Kashmir for scores of days. The curfews crippled people. Masrat Alam and Geelani Sahib would give relaxation of few days every week, but the government would counter open days with curfew. Omar’s statement is a clear instance of pot calling kettle black. Omar must not forget that it is the government forces which gunned down 111 civilians in Kashmir in four months besides causing injuries to over 2000 people. He must not forget that the forces disabled scores of civilians by pumping bullets directly on them. I laughed over the CM’s statement because he is forgetting that history will remember his government as the one which once committed worst repression on the people.
