Salathia inspects Nichehama Lignite site

Handwara, Oct 23: Minister for industries and commerce, S S Salathia on Saturday said seven million tonnes of Lignite were available in the Lignite reserves at Nichehama, Rajwar, in Kupwara district of north Kashmir. This, he said could be used to generate 660 MW power.
“The project will generate employment for 3000 people on its operation,” Salathia said while inspecting the Lignite reserves site at Nichehama here.
The minister later on visited Choutipora, Handwara, where he inspected two upcoming industrial projects.
Speaking on the occasion, Salathia announced Rs 2 crore for integrated development of Choutipora Industrial Estate. He was accompanied by MLA Handwara Chowdhary Muhammad Ramzan. The Minister said that the amount would be utilised for providing basic amenities to the industrial estate including power, water, link road and fencing, adding that entrepreneurs would be given the plots soon after the completion of civil works.
He asked the concerned officers to complete these works by June 2011 so that prospective entrepreneurs kick-start industrial activities in the estate spread over 107 kanals of land.
Slathia announced establishment of four handicraft centres in Handwara to impart systematic training to the unemployed youth of the area in market oriented crafts. He said Government will enhance the monthly stipend from Rs100 to 500 for the trainees in these centres.
The Minister also announced a handicraft cluster centre for promotion of Kani Shawl in the area. He said Government is committed to review Kani Shawl industry for which, a project has been sent to the Centre for funding. He said 10-days industrial exhibition would be organised on its inaugural day. He asked the industrialist and artisans to register their names to facilitate establishment of their income generating units.
Secretary, Industries and Commerce, additional District Development Commissioner and other senior officers of Industries and Handicrafts Department accompanied the Minister.
