Says govt will pursue Rs 8000 cr package with centre

Srinagar, Oct 25: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Monday laid stress on fast tracking action on the recommendations of Rangarajan Committee both at central and state government levels.
He said while the central government will be persuaded to extend Rs 8000 crore financial package to J&K as recommended by the committee, the state government initiatives in sectors namely power, road, tourism, agriculture, horticulture and industries pushed forward vigorously.
Chairing a high level meeting to take stock of the progress on recommendations of the 3rd Working Group headed by Rangarajan, the Chief Minister, according to an official statement, said that periodical reviews should continuously be taken by the administrative secretaries with heads of the departments to monitor the progress and identify the gaps which need attention at the highest level.
Omar said the power and the road communication identified as basic vehicles of economic growth required focused attention and the schemes initiated in the duo sectors needed proper monitoring to complete these within the prescribed timeline ensuring judicious utilization of funds. The CM said that tourism, agriculture, horticulture and industry were thrust areas in the economic development and schemes initiated in these sectors required to be carried forward to generate wide-ranging economic activities for the youth.
Taking brief on the 4-lanning of the Highway Omar said the project was of highest communication value and economic significance for the state. He said the State Authorities should keep constant rapport with the Central agencies implementing the project.
The CM taking review of the progress on various power projects said: “This is the sector which is right answer to the development and all round progress in the state.”
Omar asked the concerned administrative secretaries to identify the areas which require his intervention at the centre level for clearance adding that he would meet the concerned Union Ministers at New Delhi to push forward schemes and projects in the pipeline.
The Chief Minister constituted a Standing Committee to monitor the progress of works and ensure coordinated approach in implementing the schemes.
Speaking in the meeting Chief Secretary, S. S. Kapur urged the administrative secretaries of various departments to work in close coordination with each other and monitor work done at the ground level regularly.
Commissioner Secretary Power, Basharat Ahmad Dhar on the status of progress on various power projects said the necessary work on construction on Sawlakot, Kiru, Kawar, Rattle and Shamnot was on apace.
Dhar said the PDC was soon organizing a conference at New Delhi on Geo-Thermal potential of J&K, its exploitation and utilization.
Commissioner Secretary R&B, K. B. Agarwal informed the meeting about the status of Jammu-Srinagar 4-lane Highway. He said that construction of two stretches of roads between Srinagar to Banihal and Udhampur to Jammu and two tunnels on the road stretches between Qazigund to Banihal and Nashri to Chenani have already been awarded while the tenders for road portions in between are being opened by this month end.
Giving brief about the status of Mughal Road, the R&B Commissioner said that work on Rs. 640 crore project was going apace and vehicular traffic on the route is presently on. He said the various trucks laden with Kashmir fruit travelled through this route to Poonch and Rajouri.
