Police raid Mirwaiz manzil, arrest Prof Jeelani
Srinagar, Oct 25: Police on Monday tightened its noose around the Hurriyat Conference (M) workers by arresting several of them, including the special secretary to Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, during different raids across the city, sources said.
They said police raided Mirwaiz Manzil at Rajouri Kadal late this evening and arrested Mirwaiz’s special secretary Professor Habibullah Jeelani.
Mirwaiz’s close aide Shahid-ul-Islam condemned Jeelani’s arrest. “Since morning many of our workers have been arrested. Police have a seized the vehicle of a conglomerate and have arrested its driver also,” he added.
Pertinently, Hurriyat (M) has called for United Nations office chalo at Sonawar on October 27 to present a memorandum to the UN observers. Conglomerate has the people to observe the day as “black day” to protest against the landing of Indian troops in Kashmir in 1947.
Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has also extended his conglomerate’s support to Mirwaiz’s programme.
“We share a common cause and by its virtue I support the UN Chalo call of Mirwaiz,” Geelani had told a news conference here early this morning.
