“I am appalled to learn about the grievous eye injuries sustained by some youth including some students allegedly in police and CRPF action. I am here specifically mentioning about two cases wherein students have suffered serious eye injuries, which if not treated immediately may result in permanent disability,’ the letter states.
“Aamir Kabir Beigh, 18, son of Abdul Kabir Beigh of Iqbal Sahib Mohalla, old town Baramulla (Varmul), whose both eyes were damaged due to pellet gun injuries on September 18. The student has been referred by doctors at SKIMS to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi. The cost of the treatment is estimated more than Rs 2 lakh. His family is very poor and needs financial help,” it added.
“Aabid Mushtaq, a 9th class student, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, of Shah Faisal Colony Buchpora Srinagar was allegedly fired a marble through sling shot into his eye from a close range. One of his eyes has been severely injured which needs specialized treatment,” the letter added.
“The government should immediately take up these cases and bear the cost of their treatment. The government has to ensure that these students do not lose their eyesight for want of treatment. Moreover, there are reports that a number of youth have got their eyes damaged during the recent turmoil. Reportedly many of them are under treatment in various hospitals in Srinagar, who require specialized treatment. As such, I would like to request you (Chief Minister) to ensure that all these patients with eye injuries should be identified for immediate specialized treatment,” the letter states.
