SKIMS organizes Osteoporosis day

Srinagar: The SK Institute of Medical Sciences Soura on Tuesday commemorated World Osteoporosis Day.
 An official handout said the Department of Endocrinology SKIMS organized a CME and an awareness program – focusing on informing and educating the general public about the prevention of a disease which “still suffers from poor general awareness”.
 Commenting over the issue SKIMS Director Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar said: “Sheehan’s syndrome, quite prevalent in the valley causes very early menopause and consequent osteoporosis in a large number of our women.”
 Dr Ashraf Darzi, Dean of the Faculty, spoke on importance of conducting such CME programs while Dr Bashir Ahmad, Laway, Additional Professor Endocrinology SKIMS spoke on Hypocalcemia means low calcium in the blood.
 Others who spoke on the issue include Dr Shariq Masoodi, Additional Professor in the Department, Dr Mir Iftikar Bashir , Dr Muhammad Ashraf Ganie, Prof Ali Muhammad Buhroo.
