‘Partial blacktopping’ irks Umar Chowk residents

‘WE WERE VICTIMIZED FOR SUPPORTING PROTESTS’

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Oct 27: The residents of area stretching between Umar Chowk, Zakura and Shah Hamdan Colony are up in arms against the authorities for “discriminatory approach” in road macadamization there.
The residents said while by-lanes in the interiors were blacktopped, the main road was kept unattended even though the same was to be macadamized after two decades.
“This seems to be a deliberate attempt because the area was supporting the peoples protest during the ongoing movement,” the residents said.
They said after the blacktopping of the by-lanes, around 10 days ago, the rest of the work was given up.
“This is despite the fact that the main road connects to SKIMS Soura and a lot of patients are ferried on this route,” the locals said.
They said for now Bajri has been laid on the main road which causes inconvenience in public movement.
“They ought to have completed the main road first and then taken over the interiors,” the residents said.
They appealed the Roads and Building department officials to look into the matter and do the needful at an earliest.
