'Won’t go to separatists’ doorstep'
SUMIT HAKHOO
Jammu, Oct 27: Asserting that the interlocutors will not “land at the doorsteps of separatists”, one of the interlocutors appointed by Central Government, Dileep Padgaonkar Wednesday said that if separatists have “their compulsions, people of India too have dignity”.
Immediately after arriving, here this afternoon, Padgaonkar said, “We have clear mandate to study any proposal and meet anyone in the state, but if separatists don’t want to meet us, what we will not do is to land at their door”. He alongwith another interlocutor Prof Radha Kumar started their visit of Jammu region, after meeting cross section of people in Valley. The third interlocutor M M Ansari has already left for New Delhi.
He said that during their stay in Kashmir, except for separatists, cross section of people, including teachers, students, jailed militants and students met them. “We have asked them to present their proposal to reach for a solution to the Kashmir issue”.
“Different proposals need to be studied, as some will not be acceptable to people of Jammu, Ladakh and rest of India. We want to go through all the proposals which are submitted to us”, he said.
On its visit to Jammu the panel, he said, will meet political and social organisations.
BJP TO BOYCOTT
The State BJP has decided to boycott the Interlocutors during their ongoing visit to the winter capital of the state.
“The party has taken this decision in view of the several irritating utterances made by the interlocutors, especially Dileep Padgaonkar, on Kashmir and Pakistan”, BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas said at a press conference here.
He said; “The three interlocutors, appointed by the Central government, have caste doubts about their credibility by making several utterances in the last few days about status of Jammu and Kashmir and involvement of neighbouring country, which hurts the sentiments of the nationalist forces in the state”.
“Their statements appear as pre-judging the issues pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir”, Manhas said.
He said that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and no one should be allowed to break this union. “Nationalist people will oppose any move to give any concession to the separatist elements in the state”, he said.
Reiterating party’s demand for abrogation of Article -370, Manhas said that continuance of this Article has induced a sense of separatism among some sections of people as a result of which we have been facing problems in the state.
